This is Turtle Island, a vibrant new habitat where our beloved turtles and tortoises can thrive the way nature intended.

For our turtles, it means more than just space—it means freedom. A place to stretch their legs, swim in cool wading pools, explore natural terrain, and soak up the sun in a setting built just for them.

Sherman is our most popular reptile at Beech Creek. He is an African-Spurred Tortoise (Sulcata) and he loves to eat dandelion. Sherman also munches on timothy grass and when he wants more he lets us know by wearing his hay bowl on his back!

Shell-ebrity of Beech Creek

Sully is an Eastern Box Turtle that was illegally taken from the wild as a juvenile. Due to improper care, Sully developed MBD causing his shell to be deformed.

Chevy is an Eastern Box Turtle who has to live in his own separate enclosure in the Amazing Gardens. Unlike our other reptiles, Chevy does not like to be near other turtles (which is normal for his species) and will chase after every one he sees (including staff!).

Frankie is our resident Red-Footed Tortoise named for her striking red legs. Not only is she the largest species in our current group area, but she is also in charge. Frankie makes sure she gets to the plate of greens first, and no one dares challenge her.

Big Momma and Thomas are our resident Red-Eared slider. Their favorite food is their pellets and after months of introducing greens they finally decided to give them a try and they love them! They also like the occasional earthworm. If you’re lucky you can catch them basking on their rocks during the day.

Libby is our Three-Toed Box Turtle, and she is also our smallest turtle in the Amazing Gardens. Along with the other turtles, Libby loves to be misted on hot days and her favorite snack is earthworms!

Sunny is a Russian Tortoise and our newest intake in the Amazing Garden. He enjoys scratches on the base of his shell. When you scratch him he does a wiggle dance!

Romeo is another Russian Tortoise and just like Sunny - loves scratches on the base of his shell! You can catch him doing a little dance too!
