World Peace

The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program is an international science and education program that provides students and the public worldwide with the opportunity to participate in data collection and the scientific process, and contribute meaningfully to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment.

Get outdoors with your smartphone through the GLOBE Observer Program!

Using your smartphone, download the GLOBE Observer App, then take your kids outside to collect interesting data in a fun and easy way.

On your smartphone:

  1. Visit https://observer.globe.gov/

  2. Click the dropdown menu on the right

  3. Click "Get the App" and follow directions for your device (app is free)

  4. Once the app is loaded, open the app and follow the prompts

  5. Click "Getting Started" and follow the directions for signing up (this is free, all you need is an email address) and also join our GLOBE Observer Team “Beech Creek Go”

Once you are signed in:

  1. Select a protocol - We suggest starting with the Cloud protocol. It's fun, easy and can be done in any weather as long as it is safe to be outdoors.

  2. Follow the prompts on each page and don’t forget to submit your data at the end.

  3. As you get comfortable with the app the next protocol to try is the Tree protocol. It does require some training which is on the app, but once that is complete, it is much like the Cloud protocol in that it is easy to follow the prompts.

Enjoy!

Through GLOBE's elementary program, enjoy lesson plans, activities, background information and excellent books to download or read on your phone or computer!

Elementary GLOBE is designed to introduce students in grades K-4 to the study of Earth system science.

Each module of Elementary GLOBE includes:

  • A science-based fictional storybook in which kids explore an aspect of the Earth system using their science skills.

  • Three learning activities that further explore the science content while helping students develop science and engineering practices.

  • Teacher’s notes and a glossary to give educators basic science background information pertaining to each module topic.

Two of our favorites lessons are the Earth System and Water modules!

NOAA Activities

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) enriches life through science. The agency's reach goes from the surface of the sun to the depths of the ocean floor as they work to keep the public informed of the changing environment around all of us.

Here’s a roundup of NOAA’s most popular educational resources to help you safely hunker down while learning about the ocean and atmosphere.

In celebration of the agency's 200th anniversary, they have a ton of wonderful activities available for the public, including this extensive activity book with 43 different activities, providing hours of fun for children of all ages!
